Malaga – A dream come true

March 15, 2026

Cosmopolitan, coastal, and surrounded by beautiful hills and breathtaking nature — that’s how I would describe Málaga.

When I decided to go there, I didn’t expect much. I was simply looking for a small Mediterranean escape. But what I found was so much more.

My Italian friend Giulio had told me a little about the city and how easy it is to meet people there. He suggested joining a hike that both internationals and locals take part in. I wasn’t totally sure at first, but then I thought: If you don’t try, you’ll never know.

And wow — I’m so glad I did.

The hike wasn’t just beautiful because of the scenery. It was about meeting new people, having spontaneous conversations while walking, speaking different languages, and simply socialising with people you had just met.

Apps like “Meetup” and “Time-left” make this incredibly easy. In general, people in Málaga seem very open and welcoming. The hike organised through Meetup had quite a big group, and the atmosphere was super relaxed.

Then there was “Time-left” — such a fun concept. You sign up for dinner and are placed at a table with people you’ve never met before. It almost feels like sitting at a wedding dinner where strangers suddenly become your table companions. A bit like a blind-date dinner, but with people of all ages.

We had so much fun and couldn’t stop laughing. People were sharing plates, talking about food cultures, exchanging stories from different countries… honestly, just wow.

I’m so happy I discovered this kind of lifestyle where people are so open and curious to connect. And I’m especially happy I met so many people I instantly clicked with.

And then there’s the nature.

Málaga feels very cosmopolitan, yet it’s surrounded by incredible landscapes and beaches. I spent time at the beach along Paseo Marítimo Pacífico — full of cafés, people playing volleyball, and that relaxed Mediterranean energy.

One hike I loved was Mirador El Santo starting from Pizarra. The views are stunning. There are also so many other nature spots nearby — coastal hikes, mountains, and even waterfalls around Torrox.

Nerja is another gem. Its charming old town with white buildings reminded me a little of Santorini in Greece. The beach there is perfect for long walks along the cliffs.

And then Marbella — which felt like stepping into a completely different world. Definitely the more luxurious side of the region. The old town is beautiful with cute shops and cafés, but the real highlight for me was the walk along the beach. The further west you go, the more it starts to feel almost Caribbean: Golden sand, palm trees, and beach clubs everywhere.

Málaga truly surprised me — not just because of its landscapes, but because of its open, social energy.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you expect nothing… and end up discovering a whole new way of experiencing a place.

Wherever you feel like going, taking a trip can feel like hitting the reset button for both body and mind.

One thing I can highly recommend: Join some social activities while you’re there. Whether it’s a hike, a group dinner, or just a casual meetup — sharing experiences with others makes everything so much more fun.

Sometimes the best moments on a trip aren’t just the places you see, but the people you meet along the way.
